Welcome to Highland Bespoke Furniture and Paterson of Oldmeldrum

After almost 30 years of work in the bespoke furniture industry we have forged a new collaboration with the experienced bespoke furniture manufacturers Paterson of Oldmeldrum.

Paterson of Oldmeldrum have worked mainly in the design, manufacture and installation of bespoke kitchen and bedroom projects, though more recently they have applied their experience to crafting home studies and bars, whisky rooms and many other individual room projects.

Together we bring a mountain of experience in materials, design and manufacture of high-end furniture products. Ernie Paterson and his dedicated team at their large, modern and well-equipped workshop bring a wealth of experience in proper execution of complex projects on time and to budget, John adds extra design creativity and a deep knowledge of advanced timber production methods.

The collaboration between Highland Bespoke Furniture and Paterson of Oldmeldrum brings with it some real benefits for customers. At the beginning of the process customers can come to the Brora showroom (or Oldmeldrum) to see and feel the quality and variety of materials and appliances on offer, including some very, very unique materials too.

There are some specialities on offer too as Paterson of Oldmeldrum have a reputation for high-quality painted finishes; and John, who is now rebranding Highland Bespoke Furniture, has developed a unique process for converting native timbers into high-end components for high-end furniture incorporating amazing textured finishes that make wood come alive!

Imagine all these painting, texturing and finishing skills and techniques incorporated into your home – in the kitchen, bedroom, study, whisky bar or snug…or even a beautiful staircase and interior doors and joinery….

If potential customers are really looking for something special then they can embark upon the design process which will start with a dimensional survey to produce some schematic layouts and design concepts. In parallel with this samples can be chosen to build up a package to fulfil the client’s aspirations.

The forging of the 2 businesses started as a supplier and customer relationship. John had progressed from manufacturing and installing bespoke furniture projects to the dedicated manufacture of high specification sawn veneers cut from native timbers. This transition was inspired by the under-utilisation of our own hardwoods in Scotland for furniture and joinery projects. As it turned out Paterson’s Ernie was on the hunt for higher specification timber materials for his customers and so became a customer of John’s veneer business: Sawn Constructional Veneers.

As both Ernie and John are totally enthusiastic about quality and having the edge they got on well, consequently they agreed it would be a unique concept and a great benefit for customers to have the specialist veneer manufacture and a modern furniture manufacturing facility under one roof with a dedicated and well trained team.

New Showroom

In December 2026, as part of the rebranding of Highland Bespoke Furniture, we are opening a new showroom in Brora so that discerning potential customers in The North can get a good insight into what we can do to make their projects stand out from the crowd.

There will be a range of styles, materials and appliances to look at and the opportunity to book a survey so that we can produce a bespoke design package for your project.
